Valuing biomass, in an environmentally friendly way
Lignocellulosic biomass is the most abundant renewable carbon source on the planet. The use of biomass pretreatment is part of an environmentally friendly approach. The goal is to transform biomass into biofuels and chemical products that can replace those produced by petrochemicals.
Clextral offers a technology centered around three axes to benefit from the advantages of twin screw extrusion applied to biomass:
- Component extraction: lead to a dissolution of organic and/or mineral materials in the liquid phase. The solid/liquid separation obtained allows an efficient washing or removal of molecules of interest
- Fractionation: Increases the accessibility of the biomass components and allows to considerably intensify the pretreatment of the biomass.
- Mechanical treatment: Wood fibers for peat-free soil mixtures are one of the main products obtained with this innovative extrusion technology.
