Food products formed by extrusion processing

Extrusion technique is nowadays finding great application in food processing. Several products such as pastas, breakfast cereals and snacks are now manufactured using extrusion.
The extrusion food process is quick and easy. In order to obtain a ready to eat product formed by extrusion, the food is heated under a high degree of pressure, then gradually forced into another cooking chamber.
The moisture content of the food is then reduced during the cooking process thus obtaining a dried and formed food product.
